Welcome to "La Buena Onda"!
A luxury Hostel? A boutique Hotel? A chic Guesthouse?
We don´t like labels very much here at La Buena Onda, we just want to provide a place for travelers to relax, to exchange info, and to use as a base to explore the mountains of beautiful northern Nicaragua.
Come relax in a hammock in our patio or on our balcony and take advantage of our free internet, movie library, cable tv, or our extensive library.
We promote local producers and we support local artisans, producers of fair-trade products, and especially local farms. Ask our bi-lingual staff about visiting a local waterfall, about the best view of the city, about whats going on around town, or about touring a coffee farm
Bienvenidos a "La Buena Onda"!

Frank Burder IV: A group of 10 of us stayed at this hostel (more like a 5 star hostel) for two nights - I highly recommend it! No place like it in Matagalpa! Great coffee, great service, friendly staff, 24 hour security guard (that saved our van from getting vandalized) and so much more! Thanks Buena Onda!
Ross Macgregor: This Hostel Rocks. Fantabulous owners, a chill groove vibe and an up market hostel vibe that doesnt bite the wallet. When I head back to Nicaragua Ill drop in for sure. Recommended.
What a great little place to stay! The hotel is only a year old and our taxi driver had trouble finding it but we got there. My wife and I stayed there for three nights in February. Every staff member we dealt with was courtious and helpful. Most of them spoke very fluent English. That wasn't necessary for my wife since she is a native to Nicaragua but it was a plus for this gringo. The rooms are pretty basic but clean and neat. I really enjoyed the public areas and the openness of the prorerty. The free Wireless internet was a plus for sure. The connection isn't great in the rooms upstairs but worked very well in the courtyard, etc. The little restaurant/bar is very convenient with some really good food. They make a great American style hamburger which I was told was new to the menu. It was actually better than most you'll get at a restaurant in the U.S. I will be back in Matagalpa from time to time and will definitely stay at La Buena Onda when I'm there. Oh, and be careful to not step on the pet rabbit that hangs around.
While $30 may seem like a little expensive for a private room in Matagalpa (when compared to other hotels in the city), it is by far the best value and a great place to stay. They also have have dorm room options too, if you don't want to splurge on a private. It is very new, tastefully decorated, has many chill areas and balconies and the staff is very helpful. Value is key here. Sure you can stay at one of those cheap hotel/prisons around the park for 10-20$, but they are depressing. Seriously, the few extra dollars are so much more worth it to stay at Buena Onda. Don't stay at those dirty, prison like, stinky hippie "hotels" like Apante and Alvarado (sp). The extra couple dollars are so much worth it. Location of where you stay in Matagalpa is practically a non issue because for only 10 cordobas (50 cents as of April 2010) you can get a taxi anywhere you want to go, or just walk. The bed was so comfortable, the fans were great (no need for AC in Matagalpa) and the size of the room was probably triple that of those prison style places around the park. Not to mention hot water and wireless. Oh, and free, pretty good breakfast included. The staff know all the good places to eat and are happy to help out. Great value.
